STUDENT HOUSING WITH MIXED-USE BUILDING TROPICAL CONCEPT

Abstract

ABSTRAK

Institut Teknologi Sumatera setiap tahunnya memiliki jumlah mahasiswa yang terus-menerus meningkat. Hal itu membuat kebutuhan akan hunian sementara di sekitar kampus semakin tinggi. Pembangunan hunian sementara bagi mahasiswa yang berada di dekat lokasi kampus mampu menjadi incaran utama mahasiswa. Persoalan tersebut terjawab dengan adanya proyek rencana pembangunan student housing yang berlokasi tepat berseberangan dengan Masjid Raya At-Tanwir. Pembangunan student housing yang berkonsep mixed-use building tersebut dapat menunjang kebutuhan masyarakat setempat, penghuni, bahkan menjawab isu tapak pada aspek keberlanjutan di masa mendatang. Dengan konsep arsitektur tropis pada desain bangunan yang memaksimalkan sirkulasi udara dan pencahayaan serta penggunaan material ekspos dan elemen tanaman yang mempertegas kesan alami. Sebagai bangunan komersial, kebutuhan ruang di desain dengan efisien untuk mendapatkan jumlah ruang yang maksimal. Pada desain bangunan juga dibuat void sebagai pemisah antar bangunan yang menciptakan konsep connect people and nature. Konsep tersebut  juga diterapkan pada desain tapak yang menghasilkan ruang terbuka aktif sebagai respon desain terhadap isu tapak.

ABSTRACT

The Sumatra Institute of Technology each year has an increasing number of students. This makes the need for temporary housing around campus higher. The construction of temporary housing for students who are near the campus location can become the main target of students. This problem was answered by the existence of a student housing project which is located right across from the At-Tanwir Grand Mosque. The construction of student housing with a mixed-use building concept can support the needs of the local community, residents, and even answer site issues on sustainability aspects in the future. The concept of tropical architecture in the design of the building maximizes air circulation and lighting as well as the use of exposed materials and plant elements that emphasize the natural impression. As a commercial building, space requirements are designed efficiently to get the maximum amount of space. In the design of the building, the void is also made as a separator between buildings which creates the concept of connecting people and nature. This concept is also applied to the site design which produces an active open space as a design response to site issues.
