Abstract
The youth center on Jalan Pahlawan, Bandung, is designed as an innovative public space for Millennials and Gen Z to support social interaction, creativity, and mental well-being in a dense urban environment. A behavioral architecture approach combined with affordance theory is applied to create a space that is responsive to user perceptions and behaviors, facilitating dynamic activities such as collaboration, creative expression, and informal learning. The theory of affordance, which emphasizes action opportunities based on users' perceptions of the environment, is realized through design elements such as co-working areas that encourage collaboration, art studios and music studios for creative exploration, a coffee shop as a social interaction space, and a spacious hall with multifunctional stairs that serve as sitting points for productivity and spontaneous interaction. Circulation is designed intuitively with ergonomic pathways and staircases that support exploration, enabling natural movement and triggering unexpected encounters, in line with behavioral architecture principles. The project's innovation lies in the deep integration of affordance theory and behavioral architecture to optimize positive behavior through adaptive and responsive spatial elements. The design methodology includes user needs analysis, studies of contemporary youth center precedents, and the application of affordance principles in every aspect of the design. The project deliverables consist of a comprehensive architectural design document, including site plans, behavioral zoning, and 3D visualizations, which can serve as a reference for the development of innovative behavior-oriented youth centers in Indonesia.
