PERANCANGAN BUKU ILUSTRASI TRADISI SASI LAUT RAJA AMPAT SEBAGAI UPAYA MEMPERKUAT IDENTITAS LOKAL

Abstract

Indonesia has an extraordinary biodiversity under the sea, making it one of the countries with the best marine beauty in the world. The conservation and protection efforts in Indonesia are aimed at enabling future generations to enjoy this natural wealth and encouraging the tourism sector as a national economic driver. King Ampat, located in the West Papua Province with 612 islands, has a local tradition called Sasi. This tradition comes from the Ternate language which means oath or prohibition, applied to maintain the balance of ecosystems and enhance biodiversity by closing certain marine areas at certain periods. The King Ampat community believes that the success of the harvest depends on the implementation of the Sasi sea tradition. Currently, there is concern that the young generation of King Ampath has not been educated about the Sazi tradition, which may cause this tradition to be threatened with extinction. Educating younger generations about the marine traditions is essential to preserving local identities and marine ecosystems for future generations. This research produced an educational illustration book aimed at disseminating positive methods in the preservation of the marine environment and the local community of King Ampat. Book design uses design thinking methods, from data collection, understanding topics, ideation with storytelling approaches, prototyping, to testing to target audiences. This book aims to educate younger generations about the Sasi traditions from history to philosophy, so that they get insights and knowledge of the Sea Sasi as a local identity to be preserved.

Abstrak
Indonesia memiliki keanekaragaman hayati bawah laut yang luar biasa, menjadikannya salah satu negara dengan keindahan laut terbaik di dunia. Upaya pelestarian dan perlindungan laut di Indonesia bertujuan agar generasi mendatang dapat menikmati kekayaan alam ini dan mendorong sektor pariwisata sebagai penggerak ekonomi nasional. Raja Ampat, yang terletak di Provinsi Papua Barat dengan 612 pulau, memiliki tradisi lokal bernama Sasi. Tradisi ini berasal dari Bahasa Ternate yang berarti sumpah atau larangan, diterapkan untuk menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem dan meningkatkan keanekaragaman hayati dengan menutup wilayah laut tertentu pada periode tertentu. Masyarakat Raja Ampat percaya bahwa keberhasilan panen tergantung pada pelaksanaan tradisi Sasi laut. Saat ini, ada kekhawatiran bahwa generasi muda Raja Ampat belum teredukasi tentang tradisi Sasi, yang dapat menyebabkan tradisi ini terancam punah. Edukasi kepada generasi muda tentang tradisi Sasi laut sangat penting untuk menjaga identitas lokal dan ekosistem laut hingga generasi mendatang. Penelitian ini menghasilkan buku ilustrasi edukasi yang bertujuan menyebarkan metode positif dalam pelestarian lingkungan laut ala masyarakat lokal Raja Ampat. Perancangan buku menggunakan metode design thinking, dari pengumpulan data, pemahaman topik, ideasi dengan pendekatan storytelling, pembuatan prototipe, hingga uji coba kepada target audiens. Buku ini bertujuan mengedukasi generasi muda tentang tradisi Sasi dari sejarah hingga filosofi, sehingga mereka dapat wawasan dan pengetahuan tentang Sasi laut sebagai identitas lokal yang harus dilestarikan.
