Abstract

The transformer plays an important role in the distribution of electricity. The greater the capacity, the heavier the workload and can cause excessive heat, so that power outages can occur. To solve this problem, the transformer windings are immersed in transformer oil. This test takes the example of testing transformer oil at PT XYZ. The test methods carried out include testing the water content, breakdown voltage, interfacial tension, color, and acid content according to the IEC 60422:2013 standard. The test results show that the oil parameters are in good condition except for the acid content of 0.12 (mg KOH/gr), which includes sufficient conditions because the value is 10 according to standard. In this study, filtering of transformer oil was carried out to improve the parameter values of transformer oil to meet the standards. The results of the analysis after filtering showed that the transformer oil experienced a reduction in physical contamination, one of which was indicated by the acid content decreasing from 0.12 (mg KOH/gr) to 0.003 (mg KOH/gr), including good conditions, so that transformer oil can still be used as a medium.
